When the area of Pelham known as "Pelhamwood" was first developed, the
founders defined the neighborhood by the placement of architectural enhancements such as the clock tower on Harmon Avenue
and these gate-like structures on Highbrook Avenue. Unfortunately, these landmarks deteriorated over the years.
More than a decade ago, Pelham citizen Helen Harper saved the clock tower
from demolition. The Pelham Preservation & Garden Society raised funds and obtained labor donated by
Pelham Roofing to restore these Highbrook Gates. The project was completed in 2006.
This historic photograph postcard looking north on Highbrook Avenue shows
the gates as they originally appeared. Note that the stone pillars at the side of each gate were removed at some point
so as not to obstruct vehicle line of sight:

The Pelham Preservation Society successfully raised sufficient funds
to complete restoration of the Highbrook Gates. Labor was donated by Pelham Roofing.
